⚠ THE NOPE

It replaces: Plastic 'silken' pyramid tea bags. A single plastic tea bag at brewing temperature released ~11.6 billion microplastics and 3.1 billion nanoplastics into one cup, in the McGill study that made this famous.

WHY IT'S A YEP

  • Extra-fine stainless mesh, full-basket size lets leaves actually expand (better tea, too)
  • Loose-leaf tea is cheaper per cup than premium bags
  • Fits mugs and teapots; lasts indefinitely

WHERE IT'S IMPERFECT

  • Slightly more ritual than dunking a bag
  • Paper tea bags exist as the lazy middle path — check the brand doesn't heat-seal with plastic
  • You will become insufferable about tea quality (documented side effect)

Our take

The fancy pyramid bags marketed as “silken” are usually nylon or PET — plastic mesh, steeped at the exact temperature that maximizes release. The McGill numbers (billions of particles, one cup) made this the most quotable swap in the files. Fifteen dollars, better tea, done.
